Leni Robredo Reacts To Benjamin Magalong’s Resignation as Contact Tracing Czar
LENI ROBREDO – Vice President Leni Robredo’s reaction to Benjamin Magalong’s resignation as contact tracing czar.
The birthday party of host and eventologist, Tim Yap was criticized on social media for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocol. The party was held at the Manor inside Camp John Hay last January 17.
Contact tracing czar and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong admitted that he attended Yap’s widely-criticized social gathering. He and his wife were also bashed on social media.
Benjamin Magalong, his wife, and celebrity guest KC Concepcion were fined for not wearing protective gears inside the Manor. Yap and Concepcion have apologized while Magalong decided to resign as the head of the country’s COVID-19 contact tracing effort.
On Saturday, actress, and philanthropist Angel Locsin took to her Instagram account to share a photo of her with Magalong. In the caption, she praised him for his ‘sense of accountability.’
Based on a report from Philstar, Vice President Leni Robredo said Benjamin Magalong’s decision to resign as contact tracing czar is a ‘good example’ for officials who violated the quarantine protocols.
“Dapat ganito ‘yung respose ng public officials na nalalaga sa ganitong sitwasyon… napakaganda nung kanyang statement na sinabi niya na ‘yuing mga opisyal na kagaya naming ‘yung standard na hinihingi [ay] mas mataas.”
Benjamin Magalong turned his resignation to the Palace last week but was not accepted by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He was the latest in a string of officials to get involved in quarantine-related controversy.
Last year, Senator Koko Pimentel earned public ire for accompanying his then-pregnant wife to a hospital after he was tested for COVID-19. Metro Manila police chief Debold Sinas whose “Mañanita” drew attendees despite mass gatherings prohibited.
