Thief Steals the Expensive Phone Ordered Online After Being Delivered
New modus operandi of a thief where he ordered an expensive phone through online shopping and steals it when the delivery arrives.
In a report of GMA News, a clever thief made a new modus operandi where he is ordering expensive cellphones from an online seller. When the product arrives, the thief will make excuses to leave the cellphone.
However, the idea of the suspect, Niño Maranan Bautista, has failed and will not be able to be victimized another seller again, after he was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the authorities in Mandaluyong City.
Based on the report, a video showed the entrapment carried out on Bautista who suddenly left after accepting the ordered cellphone delivered by the undercover agent who pretended to be a delivery man.
What Bautista did not know was that someone else is waiting for him. One of the operatives arrested him, his accomplice Malawi Panindigan was also arrested.
According to the victim’s complaint, it was found out that Bautista had previously ordered him a cellphone worth P68,000. Bautista allegedly gave the address of the house that was being built.
“‘Di lumabas po siya, pinag-buksan niya po ako ng gate. Pagpasok po namin tinuturo po niya ‘yung mga kalapit-bahay na malalaki na ‘bahay ko ‘to, bahay ko ‘yan,” the victim said.
When he was about to pay, Bautista allegedly pretended to call his brother and then left carrying the cellphone. A few minutes later, Bautista did not return, so the victim asked the workers at the house addressed to the suspect.
He said, the workers confirmed that they did not know each other he just inquired in the house. “Doon na po ako nanlumo na, wala na po, nakuha na po yung cellphone,” victim said.
According to Mandaluyong Police Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Gauvin Unos, the entrapment operation was carried out against Bautista when the suspect again ordered a cellphone from his victim who had another Facebook page in use.
Bautista allegedly dropped the price when he sold the snatched cellphones and said that he had done so many times to food deliveries. Unos reminded online sellers to be careful and make sure that those who order their products are legitimate.
