Johnny Manahan Reveals How Albee Benitez Ended SNL: ‘He should’ve done the math’

Here’s what Johnny Manahan revealed about his conversation with Albee Benitez over the termination of SNL

Sunday Noontime Live director Johnny Manahan revealed how Brightlights Production owner Albee Benitez told him that their musical variety show will be terminated.

Last January 16, the production company of the former Negros Occidental congressman released a statement saying that its program SNL will have its season-ender along with the gag show Sunday Kada.

With this, based on the article in PEP, Johnny Manahan, also known as Mr. M who has been the head of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic and director of ASAP Natin ‘To for several years, gave his reaction.

He said that the announcement from their producer surprised them as it came to their knowledge later than it should be. Mr. M said that they were already preparing for the second season of the show as he said they were promised that it will probably end in March 2021 or it will reach until its third season or cycle and that means nine months.

“So, when we started, he asked us, ‘O, magkano ba iyong kapag ganyan ang show, parang ASAP?’ It’s cheaper than ASAP because kakaunti lang ang artista, but when you look at it, it’s also a hefty sum. It’s like three point something million. Alam niya iyon, e, so he should have done the math. Hindi ba? Alam niya kung magkano ang spots,” Johnny Manahan said as the Albee Benitez said that he was not earning from the show.

E, kasi ako, hindi naman ako kasali diyan sa business side, I just do the show. Ayun pala, I should’ve gotten… nakialam sana ako doon sa business side. I would have told him, ‘Huwag na nating ituloy ito, matatalo ka talaga.’ I thought, you know, as a newcomer, ‘I don’t mind if I lose money, I just want to get into the business,’” the TV director said.

Then, Johnny Manahan asked TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan to give them another week so that they could formally bid farewell to their viewers. However, he has told that the timeslot was already given to another show.

“Sorry, ha. Naibigay na namin sa iba.’ And iyong iba happens to be ASAP!” Mr. M shared. Previous reports statement that ASAP Natin ‘To will also be aired on TV5.
