This MMFF 2020 entry is for the promotion of a theme park
The fantasy movie ‘Magikland’, an official MMFF 2020 entry, was created to promote the theme park of Brightlight Productions owner Albee Benitez.
This movie which is produced mainly by the former congressman is also produced by Direk Lore Reyes, Rey Bantug, and the late Peque Gallaga. It is already revealed in a previous report that the budget of Magikland can accommodate the budget that was spent for six other entries.
Benitez said that he spent over P100 million already as he estimated. This is mainly because of the graphics that was needed in many scenes. He stressed that the money was not mainly his concern but to showcase the culture and folklore of Filipinos.
In a recent article in PEP, Direk Lore Reyes attested that the production company owner did worry mainly about the budget. He said that at first, they estimated the MMFF 2020 entry to have a budget of P97 million.

However, when they presented the cue sheet computer graphics to Central Digital Lab, the initial budget was not approved to be enough and so it was changed to P140 million.
It is because they weren’t able to shoot at their supposed locations due to typhoons last year. “On top of that, dumagdag pa iyong napakaraming computer graphics dahil hindi namin na-shoot sa totoong location. So, they had to be made at the computer, iyong forests, marble quarry, rivers, et cetera,” Direk Lore said.
Then the director-producer revealed that when Albee Benitez talked to Peque Gallaga about this movie, the budget was never in his consideration.
“So, never naging consideration iyon na kapag lumaki ang budget, let’s think about stopping production, ha? No. This film was primarily produced by Congressman Albee to promote the Magikland theme park,” Direk Lore said.
Benitez owns the first-ever theme park in Negros Occidental called Magikland.
