Here’s the stand of Bong Revilla over the filed bill regarding the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.
BONG REVILLA – Senator Bong Revilla expressed support to ABS-CBN franchise renewal bill from Senator Sotto and Cong. Vilma Santos.
Senate Bill No. 1967 is “AN ACT RENEWING THE FRANCHISE GRANTED TO ABS-CBN CORPORATION UNDER REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7966 OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “AN ACT GRANTING ABS-CBN BROADCASTING CORPORATION A FRANCHISE TO CONSTRUCT, INSTALL, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN TELEVISION AND RADIO BROADCASTING STATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES FOR TWENTY-FIVE (25) YEARS FROM THE EFFECTIVITY OF THIS ACT.”

This is the bill filed by Senate President Vicente Sotto who believed that competition among television networks is now absent and mediocrity is now creeping in. Accordingly, this is due to the absence of a strong competitor like ABS-CBN. He also cited that the network remained performing great despite not being on free TV and some of their shows being limited to appear in A2Z Channel, cable TV, and its online platforms.
Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor, the vice chairman of the House committee on legislative franchises, said that the previous bill regarding the matter must be withdrawn first in order to give way for a new one. Also, House Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto will file a franchise bill for ABS-CBN in the lower chamber as a counterpart.
And with this, despite having “sama ng loob” versus the network, Senator Bong Revilla expressed support for the renewal for a lot people have lost their jobs. It’s accordingly been months of suffering and what’s important now is to help them.
Accordingly, he has “sama ng loob” to the News and Current Affairs department of the network but has nothing with those from the entertainment department.
