PHILHEALTH – The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. broke its silence on public trust following the corruption issues.

This 2020, one of the government agencies hooked by corruption is the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth. It was after an official of the institution claimed that corrupt practices are happening inside the agency.

The former chief of the institution, Ricardo Morales, was quick to debunk the claim of his former staff. However, it has already caught the attention of the authorities and the probe started.

Several officials of the agency signed a bank secrecy waiver in line with the investigation. Morales resigned from his post over health issues.

Undeniably, a lot of people were alarmed by the issues surrounding the agency. Truths be told that many families rely to the agency for health insurance or assistance when unforeseen medical incidents take place.

Every month or quarter, members of the agency contribute a certain amount depending on their salary. Recently, a PhilHealth contribution increase crossed the surface and it sparked different reactions from the people.

Many members of the agency are not in favor of the 3% on the premium rate following the corruption issues. Undeniably, a lot of members are worried on where their contributions go.

PhilHealth broke its silence on the issue of public trust. Its Corporate Affairs Group’s acting Vice President, Rey Baleña, expressed understanding on the sentiments of the people. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he assured that there are already changes following the recent incidents.

“Doon naman po sa isyu ng tiwala, iginagalang po natin ang mga saloobin ng ating mga kababayan. Huwag po silang mawawalan ng tiwala sa programa. ‘Yung mga nangyaring imbestigasyon sa nakaraan ay nagkaroon po ng pagbabago sa ahensiya at sa atin pong programa,” he said.

A group of employers has reportedly written to the President appealing to delay the implementation of the increase on the contribution. More updates may be posted soon.
