Bulacan Firecracker Vendors Expects Drop in Sales Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The firecracker vendors in Bocaue, Bulacan are expecting a drastic drop in profit due to fewer buyers and coronavirus pandemic.

Bocaue, Bulacan has been known as the “fireworks capital” of the country for selling fireworks, firecrackers, and other pyrotechnic devices. They usually operate 24 hours until New Year’s Eve to accommodate buyers.

Some pyrotechnic devices have been already sold out in the town ahead of New Year’s Eve but vendors are expecting a drop on their profit compared to their income last year due to the health crisis.

A firework trader named Minia Camlian said that buyers began flocking along the stores in MacArthur Highway. She is hoping that their products would be sold out this year although they are expecting fewer buyers.

“We expect more customers until Dec. 31. By then, we could only hope that all our stocks would be sold out,” Camlian said.

Camlian said that fireworks has been their main source of income over the past few decades. The lady vendor is usually earning over P700,000 during holidays and she is hoping that the government would not impose the total ban.
