Pres. Duterte Reiterates Concern Over Risk of Firecrackers

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte mentioned the firecracker manufacturers in his latest televised national address.

The Philippines has one of the longest celebrations of the Christmas season. Many people are on the move for the holidays since the start of September all the way to the peak of the events in December.

The people prepare for both – the Christmas celebration and the welcoming of a new year. With regards to the latter, firecrackers and fireworks are usually parts of the celebration.

Many people really alot a part of the budget for the purchase of firecrackers and fireworks to be used on the eve of December 31. However, there are also safety concerns about some of these pieces of stuff.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is not in favor of firecrackers to be part of the New Year celebration. Previously, there were reports that a total banning may be implemented next year.

The President cited his home town, Davao City, wherein firecrackers are not allowed. According to him, they spend the celebration with food, music, and family.

Recently, Pres. Duterte reiterated his concern over the safety of the people regarding firecrackers. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during his late-night national address, the President mentioned the firecracker manufacturers.

“Walang mahabol ang mga tao if you (manufacturers) come up with products that are really not properly done or overly beyond the normal level of safety for civilians,” he said.

Based on the report, Pres. Duterte stressed that the firecracker manufacturers do not assume any responsibility over their products. He stressed that there is no warranty and the manufacturers only keep on producing their products.

The President said that he understands the side of manufacturers – the loss of earnings. However, he will not allow a product that puts the safety of the people at risk. He has yet to make a final judgment but there is a possibility that he will implement a total ban on firecrackers starting next year.
