This actor was supposed to portray the role that was given to Paulo Avelino
Paulo Avelino played the male lead role in the movie Fan Girl that was hailed as the Best Picture in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2020 but this was offered first to this actor.
The said movie which was directed by Antoinette Jadaone bagged most of the awards. It also received good reviews from the viewers although there was a controversial scene that went viral.
Aside from the Best Picture Award, Paulo also received the Best Actor trophy and his leading lady Charlie Dizon was hailed as the Best Actress. Direk Tonette was also the Best Director.
The movie is indeed a success as it was included in film festivals abroad prior to its showing in the Philippines. In the recent article by columnist Jojo Gabinete in PEP, he asked if the same success that Paulo Avelino received could have happened to the actor who was the first choice for the lead role.
The entertainment columnist revealed that this movie was first offered to James Reid. Reportedly, the singer-actor turned down this offer and so it was offered to Paulo.
In a previous article, it was also revealed that Charlie Dizon was not the first choice to play the leading lady role. However, the result of the movie appeared to be stating that Paulo Avelino and Charlie Dizon are destined to play the lead roles.
“What if tinanggap ni James ang Fan Girl? Siya rin kaya ang mananalong best actor at magiging maganda uli ang takbo ng kanyang career sa 2021?” Gabinete asked in his article.
