Pres. Duterte Speaks on Investigation Lodged by ICC Prosecutor
DUTERTE – Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte slammed the International Criminal Court (ICC) over its investigation against the administration.
The war against drugs is one of the staunch campaigns of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Since the election campaign period in 2016, the former Davao City Mayor is vocal of his pursuit to clean the Philippines.
Undeniably, under his presidency, the unexpected extent of the presence of drugs in the country came out. However, there are also a lot of issues with regards to how the processes are allegedly carried out.
There are those who were impressed by the results of the campaign while there are also critics. As for the President, he admitted that he might have miscalculated the extent of drugs in the country thus six months was not enough.
Not only some Filipinos but as well as international authorities reacted to the campaign of the current administration. A prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has lodged an investigation.
Previously, it was reported that the probe of an ICC prosecutor found “reasonable basis” that crimes are committed against humanity in line with the war on drugs of the Duterte administration.
Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke anew to the International Court. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he raised questions on the ICC’s move on the affairs in the Philippines.
“Why are you interfering in the affairs of my country and other countries? And who gave you the authority… by what divine law gave you the authority to prosecute me in a foreign land tapos ang nakaupo puro kayo mga puti…” he said.
Based on the report, the President further stressed that the courts in the Philippines are “functioning” and he will abide by its verdict.
“If the court says I should go to jail, I will go to jail. Walang problema ‘yan,” he said.
As of this writing, there are still no further information on the investigation of the ICC. More updates may be posted soon.
