Philippines Closed Borders to UK To Due To Mutated Strain of Coronavirus Detected

PHILIPPINES – Due to the mutated coronavirus strain detected in UK, several countries including the Philippines closed their borders to the European nation.

The COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest challenge that many countries faced this 2020. In fact, the battle has yet to end and the World Health Organization (WHO) advises nations not to put their guards down early.

Over 200 countries and territories have recorded cases of COVID-19. This coronavirus was first detected in China and experts are set to visit Wuhan City, its first epicenter, in January to investigate its root.

The Philippines is one of the countries that logged cases of COVID-19. Currently, a total of 464,004 cases of the disease was recorded in the country including 9,048 deaths and 429,972 recoveries.

Until now, the entire PH is still under community quarantine measures. Metro Manila and other cities with high cases of COVID-19 remains under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) this December.

Undeniably, it is quite a different Christmas celebration this time due to the pandemic. People going home from abroad can’t easily be with their families as they have to undergo quarantine.

Unfortunately, amid the ongoing battle against COVID-19, a mutated strain of coronavirus was detected in UK. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, several countries closed their borders to UK.

Philippines joined many countries in banning the entry of travelers from UK. An infectious disease expert has warned the country that a spike of the holiday cases may happen if the mutated strain would reach PH.
