Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte called to the United Nations (UN) again for the universal access to the COVID-19 vaccine once it reaches distribution.

“If any country is excluded by reason of poverty or strategic unimportance, this… injustice will haunt the world for a long time. We cannot let this happen. No one is safe unless everyone is safe,” he said.

Based on the report, Pres. Duterte also called to UN members to boost their healthcare system while awaiting for the COVID-19 vaccine. He stressed that it is the first priority now and the only thing that can be done while the vaccine is not yet available is to “delay the spread of the disease while we open our economies”.

The Philippine President expressed that life-saving products and services must also be made accessible to those who are considered as the “most vulnerable”.
