Leonids Meteor Shower To Occur On Tuesday, November 17 – PAGASA

LEONIDS METEOR SHOWER – PAGASA recently said that a Leonids meteor shower awaits Philippine stargazers this late Tuesday night.

The weather bureau’s astronomical diary also said that the even may last until the dawn of the following day, according to a report from GMA News.

“A zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of about 15 meteors might occur in the late hours of November 17 until dawn of the following day,”

PAGASA also said that the said meteor shower is one of the most prolific meteor showers, adding its radiant can be found in the constellation Leo which is found in the eastern section of the sky.

“Its radiant is in the constellation Leo which is located in the eastern section of the sky at dawn…”,

Based on the report, the said meteor shower is created by bits of debris which was left behind by the repeat passages through the inner solar system of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, according to the bureau.

Meanwhile, for the weather forecast, the weather bureau said that the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will be affecting Northern Luzon and will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley on this day.

The rest of the country, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.
