No UPCAT FOR 2021-2022 As COVID-19 Remains Prevalent
NO UPCAT SCHEDULE – The University of the Philippines announced that they would not be holding its annual UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) for incoming first-year students for Academic Year 2021-2022.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect the Philippines, the institution decided to withhold the tests for now. In UP’s official social media accounts, it announced:
Due to COVID-19, University Councils across the UP System unanimously decided not to hold the UPCAT for admission of students in AY 2021-22. Instead, the UP Office of Admissions is currently modifying the admissions system for the next intake year.
Furthermore, based on a memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for Academic Affairs, the University Councils of the CUs voted unanimously to hold the UPCAT due to logistical issues in paper-and-pencil tests.
Additionally, UP said that it needed to account for the uncertain effects of the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19 in different areas of the country. Meanwhile, when it comes to online tests, UC members also found the idea for remote examination unfeasible.
