China Rolls-Out Experimental Vaccine For $60
CHINA ROLLS-OUT EXPERIMENTAL VACCINE – A double-dose experimental vaccine has been made available to select residents of an Eastern Chinese city.
However, this vaccine has yet to complete trials and tests. According to Health Officials from Jiaxing city, residents with “urgent needs” may go to clinics for consultation regarding the Sinovac Biotech Vaccine. But, authorities failed to disclose what they meant by “urgent needs”.
Along with this, authorities also did not disclose how many residents have already been given the vaccine. The vaccine costs around 400 yuan or $59. It is administered for up to 28 days apart.
Moreover, Chinese authorities said that it has already rolled-out hundreds of thousands of experimental vaccines to essential workers on ports, hospitals, and high risk areas across China.
But, even with 11 vaccines beginning clinical trials, none have been approved for mass distribution. However, as China pushes to win the race for a vaccine, it approved some candidates for emergency use.
Across the globe, Johnson & Johnson, the leading company in vaccine production, halted trials for its vaccine candidate due to a patient having an unexplained illness.
In a public statement, Johnson & Johnson said:
We have temporarily paused further dosing in all our Covid-19 vaccine candidate clinical trials, including the Phase 3 ENSEMBLE trial, due to an unexplained illness in a study participant
Meanwhile, Beijing had previously made bold claims that they could produce 610 million vaccine doses by year’s end. Moreover, they emphasized that their vaccines would be affordable.
