House Committees Got New Officials As Term of Velasco as House Speaker Starts
VELASCO – New officials were elected in the different committees in the House of Representatives as House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco’s term starts.
The speakership issue in the House of Representatives has taken some days and gathered different reaction from the people. Undeniably, it divided the lower chamber as there are those who support either of the two lawmakers, Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco and Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
The two congressmen agreed to a term-sharing. The Marinduque Representative is set to start his term as the House Speaker on October 15 but some lawmakers do not agree to changing the house leadership now.
Both lawmakers were insisting that they got the numbers. In a session held at the Celebrity Sports Complex a couple of days ago, the position of the House Speaker was declared vacant.
After a motion declaring its vacancy, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco was elected as the House Speaker. It was not initially welcomed by Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has called the two lawmakers in Malacanang Golf Club to talk about the 2021 national budget. They “agreed to work together”.
Cayetano resigned as House Speaker and was succeeded by Velasco. As the latter’s term begins, the House Committees got new officials. According to the report, Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte is now the chairman of the House Committee on Accounts with Ilocos Sur 2nd District Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan as the Vice Chairman.
For the Committee on Health, Quezon City 4th District Rep. Angelina Helen Tan was elected as the chairman. She is succeeding Guimaras Rep. Lucille Nava in the post.
