Mayor Sara Duterte Breaks Silence on House Speakership Issue

MAYOR SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor revealed her and her party’s stand on the issue involving House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.

The speakership issue in the House of Representatives now has elicited reactions from several personalities and the public as well. It is over the term-sharing agreement between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

Based on the term-sharing, Velasco will start his term as House Speaker this October 15. However, the camp of Cayetano also pushes disagreement on the change of leadership now.

Presidential son Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte is not taking a side with regard to the house speakership issue. According to Malacanang, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is also not intervening in the issue.

According to Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, the concern of the President is the passing of the 2021 national budget. He is calling for the lawmakers to stop politics and resume with the proceedings.

Recently, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte broke her silence on the issue between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco. According to her, her party which is the Hugpong ng Pagbabago respects the agreed term-sharing.

Based on the agreement, Cayetano will serve as the House Speaker in the first 15 months of the 18th Congress and Velasco will take over for the remaining 21 months. Based on the report, the Marinduque Representative has visited Davao and asked for the help of the presidential daughter in the possible voting.

Mayor Sara Duterte also expressed her party’s support on the Presidential Proclamation 1027. It mandates a special session on the deliberation of the 2021 national budget which was suspended by House Speaker Cayetano.
