Senator Lito Lapid Plans to Change Clark International Airport’s Name
The Filipino senator Lito Lapid filed a bill seeking to rename the Clark International Airport to Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.
The Pinoy actor turned lawmaker Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid filed the Senate Bill No. 1861 seeking to change the name of Clark Airport in Angeles City, Pampanga. He wants to rename it as Diosdado Macapagal International Airport to honor the Kapampangan president of the Philippines.
Lapid considers renaming the airport since he found it fitting to be named after the late president Diosdado Macapagal who serve the country from 1961 to 1965. The bill aims to honor the achievement of the former president.
The bill filed by the 64-year-old senator is similar to Pampanga Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr’s proposed bill. However, Aurelio’s bill is still pending at the committee level.
In June 2020, two senators and House Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte filed a bill seeking to change Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas.
However, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan opposed the proposed bill saying that changing the airport’s name should be the least priority because the country is still struggling with the coronavirus pandemic.
