Pres. Duterte May Decide Whether or Not To Extend GCQ in Metro Manila Today

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte may decide on the fate of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in Metro Manila today, September 28.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the Philippines. Currently, over 300,000 cases of the disease was logged by the Department of Health (DOH).

This pandemic has rapidly spread across the globe. Over 200 countries and nations have confirmed cases of coronavirus and even the World Health Organization (WHO) was alarmed by how fast the disease spread globally.

In the Philippines, it is already a protocol now to wear a face mask when going outdoors. A face shield apart from the face mask is also a must in several public establishments like shopping malls.

Furthermore, the practice of social distancing in public places is also a must now. Gatherings are prohibited and there are other stricter limitations in areas under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ), Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), and Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Currently, the whole Metro Manila is under a GCQ until September 30. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres, Rodrigo Roa Duterte may decide on the fate of the community quarantine measure in the capital region today, September 30.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the national inter-agency task force (NIATF) is finalizing its recommendations. Based on the report, there are cities that may ease on the quarantine measures but the mayors in Metro Manila agreed to implement a uniform measure.

Pres. Duterte is expected to speak to the nation tonight. According to Roque, he was in Davao for a week and had several appointments so there is a possibility that the President will have a lot of announcements.
