Jake Zyrus Documentary ‘Jake And Charice’ Nominated in 2020 International Emmy Awards

JAKE ZYRUS – The documentary on the life of Filipino singer Jake Zyruz, has been nominated at this year’s International Emmy Awards.

Filipino singer and Glee star Jake Zyrus was formerly known as Charice Pempengco. Prior to his gender transition to male, he performed under the mononym ‘Charice.’

Jake made several international tv appearances including ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ He also performed in concerts with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster among others.

In 2020, Jake Zyrus’ documentary titled “Jake and Charice” bagged the top honor in the US International Film and Video Film Festival. Based on a report from Inquirer, his docu has now been nominated in the 2020 International Emmy Awards.

His documentary is based on his life. The award-giving body said his is up for an Emmy win under Arts Programming category.

According to the report, “Jake and Charice” premiered in Japan in November last year. It won the Gold Camera award. The docu tells the story of Jake’s new life after transitioning from Charice into the transman he is today.

His docu will be going up against “Why Do We Dance?” of the UK’s Sky Arts Production Hub, “Vertige de la Chute (Ressaca)” of France’s Babel Doc/France Televisions, and “Refavela” of Brazil’s HBO Brasil/Conspiração.

The president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Bruce Paisner, said “Congratulations to all the Nominees! – we are especially proud to recognize and honor the world’s best storytellers, producers, and performers.”

“At a time of crisis where most of us have to stay home most of the time, television entertains us and provides a window on our world,” he added.

Jake Zyrus also shared the good news on his Instagram account. It came with a caption, “Surreal. Thank you @iemmys – It’s an honor.”

The winners will be announced on November 23, 2020. Further details about the ceremony will be announced in October.
