This is in lieu to the ongoing debate whether the trans people should be allowed to use the comfort rooms that are in line with their gender identities.

According to ABS-CBN, Jake was asked about the issue during the launch of his album on Wednesday. He began by admitting that he, for once, used to think that he also has to force himself to go to the male’s restroom.

Zyrus added, however, that as time goes by, he gradually understood that not all people can think the same.

He further stressed that there are people who doesn’t believe in the “beliefs that you believe in”. Thus, he said that he simply goes to the restroom where he should go, adding that he simply follows the law.

It became a national issue ever since a transperson named Gretchen Diez was blocked by the staff from using a female restroom in a Quezon city mall. Diez was eventually handcuffed and was brought to the station.

This caused an outcry to make a bill that would protect the members of the LGBTQ+ community from any instances of discrimination, also known as the SOGIE bill.

As per the report, Zyrus implied that this is not about sexuality or the restroom anymore but rather how both sides, straight or LGBTQ+, are going to treat each other, implying that understanding and respect goes both ways.

Zyrus further said that people should not impose their beliefs on others, further adding that it’s not his problem anymore if there are those who would find it awkward seeing a trans man in a female restroom.
