Archeologists Found 2 Preserved Fossils of New 125 Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Species
ARCHEOLOGISTS – The archeologists in China found a new 125 million-year-old dinosaur species buried by a volcanic eruption.
Dinosaurs are so interesting even though they look scary and enormous. After the three-time Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg resuscitated the dinosaurs in the 1993 movie Jurassic Park, more and more people are becoming more obsessed with these amazing extinct creatures.
Some people even devote themselves to searching fossils of dinosaurs in different countries. Last year, college students unearthed a skull of a Triceratops.
Recently, archeologists in China found a 2 perfectly preserved fossils of a 125 million-year-old new dinosaur species. Based on a report from CNN Philippines, it is a new species of burrowing dinosaur.
According to a news release, the archeologist found it in the Lujiatun Beds, the oldest layers of the famous Yixian Formation. They believe that the creatures were trapped by a volcanic eruption. Paleontologist Pascal Godefroit of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences said, “These animals were quickly covered by fine sediment while they were still alive or just after their death.

According to the report, the new dinosaur species was named “Changmiania Liaoningensis.” The ‘Changmian’ means “eternal sleep” in Chinese. Scientists said the creature is a small herbivore that could run very fast like rabbits.
“However, certain characteristics of the skeleton suggest that Changmiania could dig burrows, much like rabbits today…”
“Its neck and forearms are very short but robust, its shoulder blades are characteristic of burrowing vertebrates and the top of its snout is shaped like a shovel,” said Pascal Godefroit.
