DILG Sec. Eduardo Año Confirms He Tested Positive Again for Coronavirus

DILG – Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Sunday that he again tested positive for coronavirus.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año is the vice chair of the COVID-19 task force in the Philippines. The country has far logged 157,918 COVID-19 cases, with 72,209 recoveries and 2,600 deaths.

The spike of coronavirus cases forced President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to revert the lockdown in Metro Manila and other areas into modified community quarantine (MECQ). He assigned Año to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Taguig City.

DILG Sec. Eduardo Año got infected with the virus on March 31. He recovered from COVID-19 roughly 2 weeks later on April 13.

On Sunday, Año said he has again tested positive for coronavirus. Based on a report from GMA News, he said he began having flu-like symptoms such as body aches and sore throat on Thursday, Aug 13.

On the following day, Eduardo Año had a swab test and began his quarantine. According to the report, his rest result came back positive on Saturday.

“Last night, August 15, I received my test result informing me that I am again positive for COVID-19. In the meantime, I am being closely monitored by my doctors while I am in isolation,” he said.

According to the report, the DILG chief asked those whom he had close contact to undergo self-quarantine. He also reminded the public about the severity of coronavirus. He told them to strictly practice safety protocols like handwashing and wearing face masks.

“I also make this announcement to emphasize the severity of the virus, and to encourage everyone to wear a mask, wash their hands frequently, and practice social distancing. By adhering to these guidelines, we can all help keep our loved ones and our community safe,” he said.
