Virgin Coconut Oil Promising Against COVID-19 Due To Antiviral Properties – Researchers
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL – Researchers conducted a study that revealed the promising results of virgin coconut oil (VCO) against COVID-19.
Previously, VCO has made waves across the internet as a potential treatment for the new coronavirus. However, since it was yet to be approved and studied, expert urged the public to stay cautious of any “cures” for the virus.

VCO is a substance that could be extracted from fresh coconut meat. Moreover, according to Professor Fabian Dayrit, an educator from Ateneo de Manila University – School of Science and Engineering’s chemistry department.
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Dr. Jose Mondejar, medical director of Equilibrium Integrative Health Clinic said they gave VCO to 69 participants. Those who took part of the study were from Sitio Luz, Barangay Zapatera in Cebu.
They initially took 1 tablespoon of VCO twice a day. Afterward, the dosage was increased to thrice a day. The results showed that within a 14-day period, 45 of the 69 patients tested negative. Meanwhile, 24 did not develop worse symptoms.
Additionally, an official working with on the project connected the researchers to the warden of the Cebu provincial detention center. Next, jail workers who tested positive with COVID-19 were given VCO.
Within a week, 7 jail workers tested negative for COVID-19. Meanwhile, three other workers tested negative within eight days. Furthermore, the jail had not documented any new COVID-19 cases for the past 6 weeks.
As per the report, Dayrit said he and other researchers are awaiting for the results of 2 other studies on VCO use by the Philippine General Hospital and fellow researchers in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
