CHARO SANTOS – MMK host and ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos-Concio has this statement after lawmakers voted to reject their franchise renewal.
On July 13, Friday, the Philippine Congress officially shut down the biggest media network of the country, ABS-CBN. This is after majority of the lawmakers rejected their franchise renewal bid following 13 hearings where the network proved no violations to any of the issues accused against them.
Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) considered the as one dark days for journalism. Many people and broadcasters stressed that this is a clear attack on press freedom. Big stars asked for compassion but all of these and the other pleas were all left unheard. Thousands have already lost their job in the middle of this difficult time of pandemic.
With this, Charo Santos, actress and serving as the network’s Chief Content Officer and President of ABS-CBN University, has released her statement and expressed her sadness over this setback. “Beyond heartbroken”, Charo sympathizes with all the people who affected of this.
She is proud of Carlo Katigbak, Cory Vidanes, Mark Lopez, and Ging Reyes, their franchise renewal team, for their courage, humility, and strength. And to all their loyal viewers who accordingly became their inspiration for everything, they will definitely never forget the overflowing support, prayers, and love they have for them. She is hopeful that this is not yet the end.
The ABS-CBN boss wrote, “Maraming Salamat po. Hinding-hindi po mabubura sa aming mga puso ang ating pinagsamahan! Naniniwala po ako na tayo po ay muling magkikita.”
