Alfred Vargas decided to inhibit from voting on ABS-CBN franchise

Quezon City 5th District Representative Alfred Vargas released a statement that he will inhibit from voting on the ABS-CBN franchise application.

Vargas, who is also an actor, is among the Congressmen who have the power to decide on the fate of the TV giant. However, on July 28, before the voting in the House of Representative took place, he released a statement.

He cited that although his heart goes to all the employees and workers of the Kapamilya network, he still considers the “conflict of interest”. That was the reason he pointed as he decided to inhibit from voting.

Thus, out of propriety and as dictated by law, I am duty bound to inhibit myself from voting on the application for the franchise of ABS-CBN,” he said.

This statement from the actor-turned-politician did not sit well with many netizens, especially those who have been supporting the Kapamilya network it its fight for the franchise renewal.

Because of this, he is now being tagged on social media as “duwag” or coward and this is one of the top Twitter trends after the voting has finished.

Meanwhile, in a previous report, it was stated that an alleged voting result leaked even before the voting happened. A photo was shown containing the names of the lawmakers and their corresponding votes.

However, Vargas denied that this exists. “That’s not true! That’s fake news,” he said. Reportedly, he also wondered where this alleged result came from.
