ABS-CBN: Hontiveros Ask NTC To Reconsider Order VS TVPlus, SkyDirect

Hontiveros Ask NTC To Reconsider Halt Orders VS ABS-CBN Subsidiary TVPlus, Sky Direct

ABS-CBN – Senator Risa Hontiveros asked NTC to reconsider shut down orders against ABS-CBN subsidiary TV Plus and Sky Cable.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered ABS-CBN to stop airing shows on their TVPlus and its subsidiary SkyCable Corp. The agency argued that the tv network’s TVPlus was included in the list of tv and radio stations they ordered to shut down last May 5.

Famous celebrities reacted to the new cease and desist order from NTC. Actress Liza Soberano said she has “no words for these heartless people” while Angel Locsin said she can’t help but feel heartbroken.

In a report, ABS-CBN said NTC’s cease and desist order last May 5 did not include Channel 43. “ABS-CBN has a pending petition with the Supreme Court questioning the NTC’s CDO and hopes that such petition will be resolved soon in its favor so that it can resume broadcasting on both analog and digital platforms in the service of the Filipino,” the media company said.

The company also hopes that the NTC would reconsider their plea because 1.5 million SKYDirect subscribers will be deprived of the channels. They also vowed to address the concerns of their subscribers. “We appeal to our SKYDirect subscribers and partners for understanding and patience as we undergo this process,” ABS-CBN said.

News5 AKSYON shared Senator Risa Hontiveros‘ statement regarding the new cease and desist order from NTC which shutdown Kapamilya network’s TVPlus and Sky Cable. She appealed to the government to reconsider the new cease and desist order against the media network because the people now need more access to “life-saving information” especially in a time like this.

“Especially because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we need to uphold freedom of the press, secure the rights and welfare of workers, and improve the public’s access to life-saving information,” she said.
