NTC has new shutdown order in line with ABS-CBN franchise issue
ABS-CBN Franchise – Here is the statement from the Kapamilya network on the new cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission against TV Plus and SKY Direct.
On June 30, the NTC issued the said order against the digital television service and the cable operator affiliated to the Kapamilya network. During the House hearing on June 29, Rep. Boying Remulla of the 7th District of Cavite pointed out that ABS-CBN’s broadcast on the aforementioned platforms was “illegal and usufructuary”.
NTC promised to stop their operation during the said hearing and it indeed fulfilled what it stated. On Tuesday, the order came to ABS-CBN Corporation.
In a statement, the TV giant reiterated that the May 5 cease and desist order from the NTC did not include the Channel 43 wherein the digital TV transmission is operating.
“ABS-CBN has a pending petition with the Supreme Court questioning the NTC’s CDO and hopes that such petition will be resolved soon in its favor so that it can resume broadcasting on both analog and digital platforms in the service of the Filipino,” the network said.

Meanwhile, the media company is saddened by the fact that 1.5 million subscribers nationwide of SKYDirect will be deprived of access to the channels it carries as some remote areas do not have television signals.
ABS-CBN is also hoping that with the spirit of fairness, the NTC would consider their plea as what privilege it has given to other companies whose franchises have expired in the past.
The network also promised to address the concerns of their subscribers in line with the recent cease and desist order from NTC. “We appeal to our SKYdirect subscribers and partners for understanding and patience as we undergo this process,” the media company said.
