Pride Month 2020: Sophomore Student Pay Tribute To Her Moms

Pride Month 2020: Sophomore Student Shares How She Defended Her Parents

PRIDE MONTH 2020 – Before the Pride month 2020 ends, a student paid tribute to her moms.

The Pride March is canceled this year due to the quarantine restrictions. Pinoys who are members of the LGBTQ+ took to their social media account to celebrate the Pride month 2020.

Among the Filipino stars who were supporters of the community are Catriona Gray, Pia Wurtzbach, and Angel Locsin. In a previous article, “The General’s Daughter” actress expressed her support as an ally of the community on her Instagram account.

Before the Pride Month 2020 ends, a student named Sophiya Kirsten Montaño paid tribute to her moms in her Facebook account. In her now-viral post, she detailed her struggles as a daughter of same-sex parents.

The 20-year-old sophomore student shared how she defended her moms after her religion class teacher said that a child of gay parents would face an “identity crisis.”

“I told him that as someone who’s been raised by two moms, it’s normal for children to question and it isn’t difficult to understand the concept of two moms/dads—the concept of a non-traditional family—what makes it difficult is being surrounded by people who shove heteronormativity down our throats,” she wrote.

Montaño said the experience brought back so many painful memories. “It was painful to process how society perceives your family that way when you go home to a space full with nothing but love and functions no different from a traditional family,” she said.

She recognized that normalizing gay and lesbian relationships will be a long fight due to the “deeply ingrained culture” but she believes that it is a fight worth fighting for.

“I’m proud of my moms, and I’m proud of everyone in this community. We have a long way to go in this fight, but we’ll get there. We will be recognized and accepted. Until then, know that you’re not alone and we’ll resist together,” she said.
