Update on Duterte SONA 2020 Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic in PH
DUTERTE SONA 2020 – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian revealed the reports he received about the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Annually, the President of the Republic of the Philippines delivers a speech to the people. It is called as the State of the Nation Address or more popularly known as SONA.
The current president of the Republic, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is going to deliver his 5th national address this July. However, there will surely be changes considering the COVID-19 pandemic now.
The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. There are still new cases daily and everyone must not let his guards down. The whole country is still under a community quarantine now.
Cebu City was returned to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting June 16 following the rapid increase on the coronavirus cases. Metro Manila and several other areas are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) now while most parts of the country are under a Modified GCQ.
Also, the wearing of face masks and social distancing must be observed. Social gathering are still prohibited.
With regards to the Duterte SONA 2020, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian recently revealed the reports that reached him. According to him, what he informally knew is that Senators and Congressmen will still be attending the event but there won’t be anymore guests.
“Ang mga informan na naririnig ko… So lahat ng congressmen and senators will occupy the gallery of social distancing. Di ba, may tatlong floors ‘yung kanilang gallery eh. So doon na uupo ngayon ‘yung mga mambabatas,” Sen. Gatchalian said based on the report.
Meanwhile, the Senator clarified that there are still no official plans with regards to the Duterte SONA 2020. Most likely it will still take place at the Batasan Complex but it’s not sure if Pres. Duterte will go to the venue for the delivery of his national address.
