Sen. Grace Poe Hits NTC For ‘Incompetence’ In Addressing Poor Internet Connectivity In PH

POE – Sen. Grace Poe criticized the National Telecommunications Commision (NTC) for its “incompetence” in solving the poor internet connectivity in the Philippines.

The prominent companies that provide telecommunication services in the Philippines are Globe Telecom (Globe) and Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT).  Lots of Filipinos are complaining about the slow and expensive internet service in the country.

During the televised program of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy last month, he threatened to shut down the telecommunications operators in the country. He mentioned Globe, Smart, and PLDT.

Senator Grace Poe raised her concerns regarding the poor internet connectivity in the county during her interview on DZMM’s teleradyo. She criticized the NTC for its “incompetence” in fixing the internet issue in the country. The government agency has jurisdiction over broadcast companies and telco companies.

“Ang problema natin, noon pa natin sinasabi ‘to, ay ang connectivity mismo na natin. Ang sama ng signal natin…”

“Napaka-incompetent talaga ng regulator natin, I’m sorry to say, pero hindi lang naman yan sa administrasyon na ‘to. Marami diyan carry over from the past. ‘Yung NTC dapat talaga, yan ang inaatupag nila… Iba ang inaatupag e,” she added.

According to the report, Sen. Grace Poe said if the NTC will not do its job, they will be the ones to ask telco to submit their reports to them. She also said the lack of cell towers in the country is one of the reasons for slow connectivity.

The senator noted that telecommunications companies need to secure before they can start building a tower. “Ang nagiging problema diyan, walong buwan and kailangan at 25 permits ang pinipirmahan bago makatayo ng isang cell tower. Kaya ang bagal-bagal,” she said.
