A six-minute short film has went viral on Facebook last August 2018 entitled “Jowable” which was eventually put into film of the same title starring singer and actress Kim Molina. From Vincentiments, the brain behind this story is the young director Darryl Yap.

Later on, he made original series which sparked controversies following its unconventional, problematic, and insensitive themes as per his critics. One of his notable creations is “Sakristan” and recently introduced is an upcoming another original series called “The Cousins“.

The 33-year-old director is from Olongapo City, Zambales and the founder of SaWakas. This is accordingly an independent theater group that has already performed Ricky Lee’s Himala movie. He had mentors like Ricky Lee and Direk Richard Somes even before his works have gone viral.

He also did the Squatterina on 2016 which got recognition in North Luzon Film Festival under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts where he bagged Best Director award. This was also brought in Formosa Taiwan. This short film represented the country in the said latter event.

The topics of his films ranges from sex to infidelity and among other sensitive issues which most people are afraid to speak and ask about. And being frank about his success, according to his Pika Pika interview, he is happy because he earns.

“As of now masaya po ako sa film. Number one, kasi pera. Kumikita ako. Unlike sa theater, hindi masyado. Now, I’m getting the hang of the attention that is being given to me. At first I didn’t foresee myself na maging ganito, pero I’m enjoying as of the moment,” he said.
