And now, the young director is once again facing a new controversy and the backlash is surely not a new thing to him. In his upcoming series hinting about a story about doing it with a first cousin, netizens couldn’t help it but call him out on social media for making a series out of a society’s taboo.

They tagged it as “insensitive” and “problematic”. In the description posted by Vincentiments, “The Cousins” series hinted about featuring intimate relationship between first cousins which is unacceptable to some but tolerated to some.

Clarifying that they are not condoning such taboo, it has been written in the post the reality that these kind of things happen in real life. With this, they have found this as an “interesting theme” to tackle through a series.

It furthered, “Is it insanity to do it with your insan?” to which lots of netizens have lambasted the thought.

Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:

Why do Darryl [Yap] keeps on making problematic films?

A serious filmmaker has a responsibility to the audience about the stories they choose to tell.

… its contents now are being creepy & immoral.

Haaay nanggagalaiti ako sa galit.

Yap is also the same director of box-office hit “Jowable” starring Kim Molina. This film has created a controversy where the lead character was shot complaining about her single status while holding a beer and in an altar setting. This has drawn a reactions from Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
