Former US president Barack Obama thinks that “protests could spark nationwide reform”.
BARACK OBAMA – With all the protests happening across United States over George Floyd’s death, the former president Barack Obama has this reaction.
Many people in various parts of United States have come together in protest to seek justice for George Floyd whose death was devastating while under arrest. “Cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression” was the cause of his death based on the autopsy report. The result also indicated that he had coronavirus disease.
Now, with the violent and raging protests from the Americans asking for racial justice, it could be a demonstration to spark “nationwide reforms” as per former U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday. He applauded the movement from the people.
And in his video as per CGTN report, he stated, “Too often some of that violence has come from folks who were supposed to be serving and protecting you. I want you to know that you matter. I want you to know that your lives matter, your dreams matter”.
He voiced out his support for the protesters. He also added how hopeful he is amid their anger because they “have the power to make things better and you have helped to make the entire country feel as if this is something that’s got to change.” Obama also urged the leaders to take immediate action.
Meanwhile, the four (4) police officers involved in the arrest which caused the death of Floyd lost their job and were facing charges. Derek Chauvin, the one who pinned down the late victim of the ground, was accused of serious second-degree murder.
The other three officers such as Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao will be facing charges aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter both two counts. Obama is the US president from 2009 until 2017 and he is the 44th president of the said country.
