LTO revokes the license of the driver involved in the fatal NAIA Terminal 1 accident and is fined.
NAIA TERMINAL 1 ACCIDENT – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the license of the driver involved in the fatal crash.
Initially, the driver of the SUV that rammed the people in Terminal 1 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) faced 90 days of preventive suspension on his license to drive and was given a show-cause order. The driver will also be charged with multiple charges, such as reckless imprudence resulting in two counts of homicide, multiple injuries, and damage to property.

To recall, the fatal crash in NAIA resulted in the deaths of a 5-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man. Several were also injured.
Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued its decision on the matter reflected in a five-page document signed by LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.
According to the verdict, the driver of the black SUV was found guilty of reckless driving and was fined Php 2,000.00. His driver’s license was also revoked for four years under the Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
These are the maximum penalties allowed under the law.
“The penalty imposed on the driver — a fine of P2,000 and revocation of driver’s license for four years for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle — is the maximum penalty allowed under the law,” the LTO said.
The LTO, in the same decision, underscored that “driving is not a right but a privilege that can be revoked anytime” if violations are committed. There are existing laws and road safety rules and regulations that drivers must heed if they want to avoid revocation of their license.
