Palace Says Public School Enrollment Will Proceed On June 1

PUBLIC SCHOOL ENROLLMENT – Malacañang Spokesperson Harry Roque said the enrollment in public schools will proceed on June 1, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most people now are isolated in their homes to avoid getting infected with the deadly virus. It has caused the death of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Governments across the globe suspended all classes to stop the spread of the coronavirus. In the Philippines, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced that the opening of the school year 2020-2021 will be on August 24. Classes will be held in classrooms or online.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, and Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. were against DepEd’s decision. The 75-year-old chief executive and the lawmaker have the same sentiments. They said they are not inclined with their decision to resume the classes if there’s still no COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, Trillanes suggested that classes in public schools and state universities and colleges (SUCs) should be moved until January 2021.

DepEd has scheduled a month-long enrollment.  They have reminded the parents that the enrollment in public schools will start on June 1. Based on a report from Inquirer, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the enrollment in public schools will proceed on June 1 because they have to prepare.

“Tuloy po yan dahil hindi naman po tayo pupuwede na walang preparasyon…”

“Sa atin po, kailangan tuloy pa rin ang preparasyon pero gaya ng aking nasabi, ayan po, sumipa po ang numero ng COVID-19 (cases). Madali naman po ‘yang ‘wag ituloy. Naghahanda po tayo sa possibility ng both face-to-face at saka blended learning,” he added.
