Pregnant Tenant Complained Against Landlady Who Removed Her Apartment’s Roof & Door After Failing to Pay Rent
A certain landlady reportedly removed the roof and door of the apartment being rented by a pregnant tenant after failing to pay the rent.
Princess Remureran, a lady tenant renting an apartment at Barangay 167 in Caloocan complained that her landlady removed their door and roof after she failed to pay the worth P5,000 of two-month rent.
The landlady removed the apartment’s door and roof to force the pregnant woman and her two-year-old daughter to leave amid health crisis. Remureran’s husband lost its job as a factory worker and currently stranded in Bulacan due to quarantine protocols.
“Bigla na lang siyang bumaba dito tapos sabi samin ang kakapal ng mukha kasi di nagbabayad-upa,” Remureran said.
Remureran reported the incident at the barangay and to the police authorities. Barangay 167 Captain Antonio Reyes told his staff to talk with the landlady and urged her to return the home materials.
Reyes also asked the landlady and landlords to extend the deadline for tenants during this time of pandemic.
However, the 71-year-old landlady said that she really needs money for the medication of her husband who suffered stroke and for the basic necessities of her grandchildren. She also admitted her mistake and decided to return the roof and door.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año also said that the landlady might face criminal charges for her actions.
