Lawyer Arrested in Checkpoint for Passing Fast Lane Dedicated for Frontliners
MAKATI CITY – A lawyer was arrested at a checkpoint after crossing a fast lane just for frontliners on the COVID-19 response.
Police manning at a quarantine control point on the Osmeña highway in Makati Friday night stopped a Mercedes Benz passing the fast lane for inspection. Police asked him if he got identification to prove he’s a frontliner.
According to the arresting officer, Police Cpl. Jefferson Boles, the driver did not show ID from the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 response proving that he was a frontliner and could go through the fast lane.
According to the police, they asked the driver to get down of his vehicle but the driver told them “Aabalahin mo pa ba ako sa simpleng bagay na ‘yan.” His answer didn’t fazed police as they insisted him to present what they asked.
After a few minutes of discussion, he was asked for a driver’s license. However, the 53-year-old lawyer, who was identified to be living in Ayala Alabang Muntinlupa, was also unlicensed, according to the report of ABS-CBN News.
The lawyer was arrested and brought to the police station. He will face charges for violating Article 151 or resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and traffic violation which is driving without driver’s license.
