US Pres. Trump Warns Freezing WHO Funding Permanently
TRUMP – United States President Donald Trump warned to make the freeze on the country’s funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) permanent.
Currently, COVID-19 or coronavirus is posing a huge challenge to over 200 countries and territories. In fact, not only those with confirmed cases are on a fight against the disease but as well as those who have to protect their borders to prevent the entry of the disease.
It was last December 2019 when China recorded cases of the “mysterious disease” that infected a lot of people in Wuhan City. The authorities locked the place for more than two (2) months.
However, last January 2020, several nations started recording their first cases of coronavirus. Deaths outside China were then recorded.
The COVID-19 is a pandemic now. Its effects is far beyond what was expected of its. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is going to be a long-term battle against the disease.
There are now over 4.8 million cases of coronavirus recorded in the different countries and territories. Based on Worldometer’s tally, more than 320,000 of these patients died while more than 1.9 million have recovered from the disease.
The United States remains on top of the list. Based on the tally, it has recorded over 1.5 million cases; 91,000 deaths; and 1.1 million recoveries. The President has declared a national emergency in the country.
Amid the pandemic, President Donald Trump placed the funding of U.S. for WHO on a temporary freeze. Based on a recent report on Thomson Reuters Foundation, the U.S. President warned to make it a permanent freeze “if the WHO does not commit to major substantive improvements” within a month.
According to the report, the U.S. President also warned to reconsider the membership of his country to the international body. He made the address to WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
