PAGASA Gives Update On Heat Index, Shows Metro Manila At 43 Degrees Celcius

PAGASA HEAT INDEX – The Philippines is feeling the summer hear as the PAGASA reports a 43 degree Celsius heat index in Metro Manila.

What is a heat index? – According to PAGASA, a heat index is a “human discomfort index that gives the “apparent” temperature or what humans perceive or feel like the temperature affecting their body”.

Additionally, high air temperatures and high relative humidity also increase the apparent temperature index. Meanwhile, full exposure to the son could elevates the heat index by 8 degrees.

Currently, the majority of the Philippines is experiencing high temperatures. As such, here is the updated heat index forecast for the next five days according to PAGASA:

Due to high temperatures, the public is urged to stay on the lowest floor inside the house out of the sunshine. This is because heat rises upwards leaving the cool air below.

Moreover, lightweight and light-colored clothing are advised, especially colors that could reflect the light of the sun. Next, the public is also advised to drink plenty of water and avoid drinking liquor as it dehydrates the body.

Here are the effects of the Heat Index in our body:

27 – 32°C80 – 90°FCaution Fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and activity. Continuing activity could result heat cramps.
32 – 41°C90 – 105°FExtreme Caution Heat Cramps and Heat exhaustion are possible. Continuing activity could result heat stroke.
41 – 54°C105 -130°FDanger Heat Cramps and Heat exhaustion are likely; Heat stroke is probable with continued activity.
Over 54°COver 130°FExtreme Danger Heat Stroke is imminent.
