MRT Passengers Must Prepare for Longer Boarding Time
MRT PASSENGERS – The passengers of the Metro Rail Transit must allot two (2) to three (3) hours for boarding once the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) is lifted.
In the pursuit to contain the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19 in the Philippines, the national government previously placed the entire Luzon under an ECQ. The same measure was implemented in most provinces in Visayas and Mindanao.
Everyone’s encouraged to stay at home. Non-essential businesses stopped their operation temporarily and the public transport was also suspended amid the fight against coronavirus spread.
One of the means of transportation suspended is the Metro Rail Transit or MRT. It usually gathers hundreds of commuters daily and mostly are students and employees.
However, when the ECQ is lifted, things may not be the same including the routine of the MRT passengers. Based on a report of GMA News, the commuters are asked to allot two (2) to three (3) hours for boarding once the operation will resume.
Only 51 passengers or 13% of the train’s total capacity will be allowed to board in a trip. Based on the report, Metro Rail director Michael Capati expressed that from thirty minutes, the waiting time may now take two (2) to three (3) hours.
Also, passengers will have to undergo strict measures before they will be allowed to board the train. Per teller, only three (3) passengers will be allowed to fall in line.
Furthermore, only (6) passengers will be allowed every turnstile. Markings have already been placed in the North Avenue Station for the practice of social distancing.
