DOH Says Areas Easing Isolation May Incur Stricter Quarantine Protocol
AREAS EASING ISOLATION – The Department of Health (DOH) warned areas loosening quarantine measures.
Moreover, they emphasized that an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) may be imposed in that area if COVID-19 cases rise. As such, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire Stated:
Kailangan maipatupad ang measures na ito. Kung hindi, babalik ang kaso sa kanilang lugar
Due to the effects of COVID-19, individuals must adhere to physical distancing protocols, wear face masks, wash hands, and observe proper cough etiquette. Furthermore, some areas have been placed under ECQ to prevent the spread of the virus.
According to a report from ABS-CBN, Vergeire stated that an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases is still possible. Moreover, she emphasized that areas that have eased quarantine may have stricter protocols imposed if cases increase.
Maaari pong mangyari ‘yan. Ang ating magiging basehan ay ‘yung case doubling time atsaka ‘yung critical care utilization rate o ‘yung kapasidad ng health system sa isang lugar
Furthermore, she added that a General Community Quarantine may be added to some areas given tighter quarantine measures. However, it would depend on the number of cases and the area’s healthcare capacities.
Due to the continued rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, President Rodrigo Duterte extended the ECQ until May 15 in Metro Manila. However, the Luzon-wide quarantine was lifted on April 30.
Yesterday, the DOH reported 9,223 cases of the new coronavirus. Along with this, the virus caused 607 fatalities. Meanwhile, 1,214 have recovered from the deadly virus.
Worldwide, the number of reported COVID-19 cases had reached over 3,566,000. Furthermore, the number of deaths caused by the virus rose to 248,282 with the number of recovered at 1,154,014.
