Palace asks Pinoys to do this amid ECQ

As enhanced community quarantine is extended, Palace asks Pinoys to lessen their time using Netflix and other streaming services.

The ECQ prompted many to do their work at home and for some, this has become an opportunity to binge-watch their favorite series and movies on various streaming services available.

In line with this, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated the plea from the Malacanang to all Pinoys to lessen the time they spend watching on Netflix, based on the report from Brigada News. According to him, limiting the use of Netflix and other streaming, that are known to consume big data, would help others to have a stable internet connection.

The Spokesperson plead to Pinoys to do this for the meantime that the country has no additional infrastructure work yet for internet. Roque also suggested that people could just download the movies or series that they want to watch instead of streaming them online.

With regard to this problem, the Presidential Spokesperson admitted that the situation of the internet in the Philippines is not commendable even before the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that this is the reason why the operation of the third telco player should be fast-tracked that is expected to provide better internet service to consumers, based on the report.

Meanwhile, just recently, Harry Roque also answered questions regarding the alleged human rights violations amid the ECQ as several reported incidents about this surfaced. He said that the cases are isolated and that there is no abuse of power.

“We’ve had isolated cases and none of them involve human rights violations,” he said in an interview.
