Barangay Kagawad Withdraws Half of SAP Cash for Unknown Reason
HAGONOY, BULACAN – a barangay kagawad was reported that he allegedly withdrawn half of the Social Amelioration Program cash from the residents.
Video footage shared by GMA News shows an official of the barangay named Danny Flores having transactions with the recipients of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), where they received cash assistance from the Social Amelioration Program or SAP.
According to the report, Flores withdraw up to P3,500 from SAP’s P6,500 cash given. However, it is unclear where the withdrawn cash will be used, said SAP beneficiaries.
But Flores said they have an internal agreement with the beneficiaries before the cash handed to them that half of the money will be distributed to residents who are not qualified and didn’t received the cash assistance.
Although he told residents it was a Hagonoy mayor’s order, Flores clarified that the mayor had nothing to do with the recovery of aid. Mayor Raulito Manlapaz said they were outside the barangay’s agreement to split the money. Flores is also ready to face any charges filed against him.
Since the Philippines was stricken by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the government gives cash aid or known as the Social Amelioration Program to help the residents whose jobs were affected by the lockdown and enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols.
