This was revealed by the Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire during an online briefing on Saturday, April 25. And the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that this case is alarming.

Dr. Abdi Mahamud, WHO-Western Pacific Region COVID-19 incident manager, indicated that the 13% figure is “worrisome” and that the country is “a bit of an outlier” as per Rappler. To recall, last April 20, in Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), 43 of their staff tested positive of the virus.

And they cited including the health experts, that lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) is one of the main reasons behind this. PPE is their protection and several volunteers, private individuals, and groups, on the other hand, have donated and given out improvised PPE.

There are some 1 million sets of PPE will be distributed to various hospitals in the country. On April 26, the total number of coronavirus confirmed cases from the DOH reached 7,579 with 501 deaths and 862 recoveries.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness from a new strain of novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 to which the outbreak was first ever recorded in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province.
