It is the second largest moon of Jupiter. according to Space. The moon has an ancient, cratered surface, which is the basis that geological processes in the moon could be dead.

It is, however, unclear whether or not it holds an underground ocean.

It is discovered by Galileo Galilei in the year 1610. The discovery led to the understanding that planets orbit around the Sun and not the Earth itself.

The moon was named by yet another of Zeus’ lovers who is a Greek mythological nymph who was a daughter of the Arkadian King Lykaon and a hunting companion of the goddess Artemis.

It is the outermost of the four, orbiting Jupiter at a distance of around 1.16 million miles or 1.88 million kilometers. Like Ganymede, it takes about seven Earth days to complete its orbit.

Its size is roughly similar to Mercury with about 3,000 miles or 4,800 kilometers in diameter.

The moon is also the most heavily cratered moon in the solar system.
