Honest Tricycle Driver Returns P25,000 To Korean Passenger During Quarantine
HONEST TRICYCLE DRIVER – Admittedly, many have been hit hard by the effects of the coronavirus crisis – especially drivers.
As the country fought against COVID-19, President Rodrigo Duterte imposed an enhanced community quarantine. With this, non-essential businesses were closed, and public transportation was banned.
In lieu of this, several small-time drivers have been left without a source of income for months. However, this didn’t make Romy Jimenez forget about his integrity.
According to an article from the Manila Times, Jimenez was a driver in San Marcelino. Additionally, he returned P25,000 to a Korean passenger who left his wallet inside his vehicle.
Alam ko kung gaano kahirap kumita ng pera. Hindi ko pag-iinteresan ang pinaghirapan ng iba
As per the article, a Korean Resident of Barangay Linasin offered to rent his tricycle. Meanwhile, Jimenez added emphasized that he was not transporting different passengers because that would be illegal during the quarantine.
Upon realizing that somebody had left his wallet inside his vehicle, he brought the wallet to the police station and waited for someone to claim it. Aside from the cash, the wallet also had passbooks, IDs and grocery receipts.
As a sign of gratitude, the foreigner gave him P500. According to the Jimenez, this was already a huge help for him especially because he doesn’t have regular trips.
Luckily, upon hearing of his good deeds, a private group called “Project Ronin” pledged to give Romy’s family a week’s supply of groceries.
We need to acknowledge the good in people. We need honesty, compassion, and action especially during this time,
