Karlo Nograles reveals truth about ECQ extension until mid-May.
ECQ EXTENSION – Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles reveals truth about the circulating rumors over ECQ extension to last until mid-may, April 18.
In a previous report, some Philippine senators have expressed support to have the enhanced community quarantine be extended. Senate President Tito Sotto said that this is best if the treatment for the virus is not yet available and Imee Marcos supported modified community quarantine if the ECQ extension until April 30 ends.
And now, with the information circulating online indicating extension until middle of May, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles gave light to this on Saturday, April 18. In a report from PNA, he tagged this kind of report as “fake, false, and untrue”.
Accordingly, he said as per report, “Napakalayo sa katotohanan. This is totally false, totally untrue, totally fake. So huwag na po nating patulan iyan.”
The Luzon-wide ECQ is a safety measure to contain the spread of the virus in the country which continues to rise everyday. This can possibly be partially lifted, totally lifted, or extended anew depending on the recommendations of Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) which will be passed to the president.
Meanwhile, former NEDA chief Ernesto Pernia said that another extension cannot be sustained anymore. Pernia said that a lot has been to partial opening is already needed and if in case ECQ is lifted, proper and strict precaution must be done to avoid relapse as this has happened to Wuhan, Singapore, and Korea already.
He said, “Dapat lang may precaution against the resurgence or the relapse of people who had been cured or who were able to avoid the COVID-positive situation.”
