Desperate residents caused Kenya stampede during food distribution.

KENYA STAMPEDE – A stampede happened at Kenya’s capital as desperate residents flock their way to avail food aid amid the coronavirus crisis.

As coronavirus became a world crisis, many people from different parts of the world were forced to stop from working in order to prevent its spread. No work, means no earning to those people who are dependent on their daily wages. And there’s government with their plans to provided for their people to survive.

However, in Kenya, as hungry residents heard food distribution to be given to the people, they violently went their way to the area where they will be given food supplies to last them until another day. The desperate residents, however, forcing their way in led to a stampede.

They were fighting to have their food package where men with sticks can be seen on the picture. The chaos transpired for they were “dying of hunger” says one resident. These are the heartbreaking result of being in lockdown and restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 just so the virus won’t spread.

Richard Agutu Kongo, a motorcycle taxi operator was one of the witnesses of the devastating stampede which injured many people including children and woman. He said that it’s becoming hard for him each day to provide 3 meals a day for his family. He has six children and he was able to get a package.

He got a food assistance that could last them for two days but lamented for it seems like their government doesn’t have any plans yet to feed them. Amid the stampede, police officers fired tear gases to which, based on witnesses, have caused injury to many people as per Inquirer.
