Middle Class People Cash Assistance Amid Crisis Earns Support

President Duterte considers extending help to the middle class people in terms of cash aid.

MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE – President Rodrigo Duterte said that the cash assistant to be extended to the middle class people is “valid”.

There are seven income classes and they are the following: poor, low income (but not poor), lower middle income, middle class, upper middle income, upper income (but not rich), and rich. And now that the country has been hit by the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), regardless of any statuses, everyone is at high risk and affected.

With this, the one who bravely initiated the move to include the middle class earners to receive the cash aid from the government through the social amelioration program is Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla. In his letter to the president, he indicated there that those in the middle class were often overlooked when in fact, they pay the most taxes and their work keeps the economy of the country alive.

Based on Inquirer, the emergency subsidies to be distributed to the poor have encountered some problems in terms of distribution, thus, a “radical change” has been suggested. It has been indicated that instead of giving out the same process on the second month of the subsidy, all Filipinos can receive Php 1,000.00 excluding the 10 percent of the population which is the rich.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, the spokesperson of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, although they are open to also give cash aid to the middle class persons, said that they are yet to study and create the appropriate program for them.

Duterte accordingly said during his last address as per the report, “The point raised by Governor Remulla of Cavite, I think, is valid. We’ll try to remedy it with whatever we find down the road.”

If the sources are just enough, the president would surely include the middle earners, sadly, it was limited, not even sufficient to sustain the poor ones, accordingly.
